GuHCl or Urea

Postby Peace » Thu May 17, 2012 11:36 am

Hi All,

I like to ask a question.

When we are purifying the proteins under denatured condition, we can use Urea or GuHCl (Guanidine hydrochloride). These both are strong denaturants .
What is the difference between them?

thanks

GuHCl is not compatible with IEF whereas Urea is. Otherwise, I don't see much difference in their ability as chaotropes.
